History of Hajj
If we look at the history, the valley of Makkah was a dry and uninhabited place four thousand year ago. Muslims have a believe that Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham) was ordered by Allah Almighty to bring his wife, Hajira (Hagar) and their child Is'mail to Arabia from Palestine Allah told the Prophet Ibrahim to leave them alone in this barren place with some supply of food and water, Hazrat Ibrahim followed the order of Allah Almighty. The food and water were finished after a little time of their stay and Hazrat Ibrahim wife and son was left in starvation and thirst. In order to get some water for his son as he was crying of thirst the mother ran up and down between the two hills named as Safa and Marwa trying to find anything that can be helpful but the act was not useful. Finally she sit closer to his soon and beg to Allah Almighty to help them to get out of this hard situation. The place where Ismail was rubbing his foot in thirst that caused a spring of water to come forth from the land after this the Hajira and Ismail were saved. Now they had a large amount of water supply and they were able to even trade water with the passing travelers in exchange of food and supplies. After sometime Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim return from Palestine to check his family and he was amazed to see them running a profitable well. The Prophet Ibrahim was instructed by Allah Almighty to build a shrine especially for him. Hazrat Ibrahim along with his son Ismail constructed a small stone structure - the Kaaba or Cube - that was referred as the gathering place for all the people who wants to strengthen their faith in Allah Almighty.
As the time passed Ismail was blessed with Prophet Hood and he gave the message of Allah Almighty to the people to obey him and accept the teachings of Islam. After many centuries, Makkah became a growing city thanks to its reliable and large water source today known as the well of Zam Zam. With the time people began to follow the polytheistic ideas and they started to worship spirits and many different gods. The place of the Prophet Hzarat Ibrahim was used by the people to store idols. After many years, Allah choose Prophet Hazrat Muhammed that he should remove the idols and make Khan Kaaba only the place to worship Allah Almighty only. In the year 628 the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad set out on a journey along with his 1400 followers. This was the first pilgrimage in Islamic History and the purpose was to re-establish the religious traditions of the Prophet Ibrahim.
